Winston Rowntree fuckin’ rules and his comix are the best on the web. Welcome to all the readers who may have come from Subnormality. There’s nothing here as good as the worst thing there but I hope you’re not totally disappointed.
I added a “donate” button in an attempt to help keep the site running smoothly particularly during traffic peaks. I was thinking of doing a donation drive type thing each month where I could do bonus comics or “covers” or pin-ups – whatever everyone wants. If anyone thinks this is a horrible idea or has a better one please, let me know; I love suggestions. I was also thinking of selling originals of the comics etc. if there’s any interest in something like that.
This comic didn’t turn out as I’d envisioned but – what else is new. I guess it’s OK.
You draw some unproportionate sexy women, though I am not sure your style would go to pinups. Though sex sells. Could try the whole background thing I’ve seen a couple of cartoonists do.
I liked it a lot. This is how I read it…
Life is continually changing based on our choices and the choices of others and external events … Except for those trapped in depression (the guy in the bottom right)?
Maybe the green guy in the bottom just needs a caring person to come along – like the blonde hair girl in mourning (on the dull green slides and ladders) when she meets the long haired girl (on the orange slide).
You’re too hard on yourself. Winston is fucking amazing, and I like you as much as him. You two write and draw my two favorite webcomics, and I couldn’t honestly say which one of you I like better. You both do things differently, and you’re both incredible.
Wonderful comic, as usual. If it makes you feel better, I check your site AND viruscomix everyday, even when I know there won’t be an update. I have one question though, cause neither me nor my friends can figure it out. What is going on with the family with the pale green chutes and ladders? Down to business men, then up to the hospital bed? Then it cuts off? What the hell happened there?
Great comic! I find two meanings when I read it: The upper part of the comic is about life having ups and downs and everything can be great, shit or everything in between. But the lower part I think is like: you read it top down and everything becomes shit, and at the bottom you see the writer/drawer and his chair just broke leaving him angry and that’s why he drew this. Anyway, you’re comics are so thorough and meaningful that’s part of the reason I love them so much, they always make me think. Whenever I can’t find the meaning I like to think the cartoon wants to convey this: Eat shit and die!
“Okay”, hell. I love comics like this, where you get to spend a long time looking at all the interplay and the little details here, there, and everywhere. Another fantastic effort from you, sir.
(And don’t kid yourself — you and Winston are BOTH excellent writer/artists).
And “1upforever” — I’m pretty sure that family was happy and successful, then the mother got very very ill (thus, businesspeople “raping” them of large amounts of money). Then she’s recovering in the hospital on the next ladder up and they’re on their way back up into the sunshine. I hope so.
cheers,
Phil
I also would like to know what happenned to the the family with the green chutes and ladders. What’s up with the greedy businessmen?
I love how the cat isn’t really interested in anything more than eating birds. He has it easy 🙂
Always been a fan of hard copies…I’d shell out despite the ability to read them for free online.
Your and WR’s work are different enough to love unconditionally without competition involved. You guys make me stupidly (and intellectually) happy.
Take care.
Got down to the red lady, liked it lots. Kept scrolling, saw the last bit, died. I love this new direction.
awesome! Just donated. Now I’m going to go through the archives and pick out which original I want to buy.

Ahahaha, I didn’t want to comment until I understood the story of the pale green chute and ladder. Anybody here watch Requiem for a Dream?
This is such an amazing concept. I’d love a poster of it someday.
Hey, got linked here from Subnormality and immediately went on an insane archive binge. Your comics are pretty dang fantastic, I must say.
This comic in particular really made me smile. I like comics like this where you have to pause a moment and take it all in, following all the different paths. I especially liked the way some of the paths intersected and branched off each other, like purple coming from gray, pink and purple meeting each other, and yellow forking into red and yellow.
it’s you down there, innit?
pinups are something i will never say no to, i have the akimbo-reading miniskirt sweetie still vividly in my mind. keen to see more. cheers
Hey… what happens with the family with the dark green slide in between them being all happy together and the wife in hospital? Where the slide ends and the ladder begins, there’s a gap with a bunch of dudes throwing money around, but isn’t that a group of strip club patrons for the girl with the red slide? Are the two involved, or is one of the paths missing something?
you don’y have to beat yourself up a bit. okay, this comic might not have come out as you wanted it, but that’s the great thing about experimentation! Even if it doesn’t work you can still learn from it.
Oh, and by the way, you can easily compete with winston rountree. You’re both fucking awesome and probably the two greatest WEBSITES on the internet, never mind webcomics.
Ass to ass. That is perfect.
I love this comic. Right now I’m thinking about printing this out right now and brainstorm my own continuation, working off what trails off the sides and adding my own scenarios, and just expanding farther and farther on a giant roll of butcher paper…
My very favorite story – and the one I found last – is the cat’s.
))(( kitschbot wins! Also, good to see so many new faces around here. Thanks to the fans for spreading the word.
Oh, i just found the cat. Fucking awesome.
Bob & Bob won the Audience Choice Award at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival!
How do you know about this before I do, Jonny Paycheck? Great news!!
I got in touch with the director when trying to get a copy of the film. I’m still waiting for his festival rounds to be over, before trying to persuade him into sending me a copy for free.
Holy crap, this is great.
I didn’t get it at first, which made me feel like an idiot after I saw the “Chutes and Ladders” theme. Love it.
Originally came here from Subnormality, as has been said a few times your styles are completely incomparable. I’ve spent the last 2 and a bit years taking so much from the both of you. Thank you for the gifts.
