I had been struggling with this one for awhile. I wanted a setting that was not cliche and was drawing a blank. Then I saw a drawing by Scott C. and bam. It’s all about ripping off the right people. By the way, you can add “Black Lodge floor pattern” to things neither fun or satisfying to draw. Also, I’m aware that as I have it stated one can avoid being a dick by having less character than they started out with, but you know what I mean.
In other news: I’d like to announce the implementation of an idea I stole from Cat and Girl. I don’t really want to steal the name as well as the idea but until I can think of something else: akimbo comics fun club!
What is it? For a donation of $50 a reader becomes a member of the club, which means they get fun stuff in the mail like original art, mini-comics not available online and other stuff. Membership lasts a year during which they will receive at least six packages.
How much is it? $50. Just donate using the “donate” button and make sure your mailing address is correct. Anyone who has already generously donated $50 or more is already in the club (if your address has changed drop me an email and let me know).
I’ve been wanting to do something fun in the mail for a while. Add to that the fact that I’m out of comic-making supplies and broke as well as the fact that Emulsifier works tirelessly and without compensation (a fact weighing heavily on my conscience) so when I saw Cat and Girl’s model I thought it might work well for us. I’d love to make a book but it is so time consuming. I haven’t given up on the idea but it’s not possible at the moment. I’m excited about this idea! I think it’s going to be fun! Regardless of whether you join the club or not, I want to say thank you so much to all of you readers. You are absolutely the best. I make these things and think they’re awful and no one will like them and I get such great support from you all. Thank you so much!
YEAH I joined the FUN CLUB! tell me I’m the first!
oh yeah, loved the comic as well. Any combination of math + putting down assholes is a definite winner for me.
Thanks cbobgo! You are the first! Actually, you were already a member, but you were still the first. Thank you!
YEAH SUCK THAT BITCHES!
I have to ask, since your formula is change in character over time wouldn’t a decrease in character result in a negative value? Or does the delta(character) portion of the formula disregard negative changes?
Which is worse than the hapless young lady in the comic who came out with a big fat 0.
It’s been many years since I did any serious math, please be gentle.
Math nerd coming through!
So, Stanislaw, the formula in the comic is basically the same formula as slope, if you were to plot character on the vertical and time on the horizontal. Therefore, the formula he described would be positive for increasing (bettering) character throughout life, and negative for decreasing (worsening) character throughout life. Meanwhile, the lady in the comic, with a value of 0, could have her life plotted as a horizontal line, where she didn’t change at all over time.
So, yeah, one could get worse than her, by having a negative “character slope,” and no, the delta doesn’t generally disregard negative changes.
I’m going to join this club once I’m back in the states! Great comic 🙂
Does this extend to those of us in Australia? Or do we need to pay extra for postage or whatnot?
@Foxindox: Yes, certainly. And no you don’t need to pay extra.
I think this is one of the best single-page comics I’ve ever read. Not particularly funny, but then it didn’t need to be. 😀
Love your comic, very insightful and they always make me think more about life. Keep up the excellent work. 🙂
Woo! Made it through the archives. Now to figure out what to do with all this pathos.
By the way, I love your comics. Absolutely spot-on comedy and insight.
Thanks for all the great comments and encouraging words! I’m going try to crank out some good stuff.
your mystery man looks like Robert Black in Lost Highway. Just putting it out there.
That should’ve been “Blake”, not “Black”. Damn typos.
How long do we have the opportunity to join the fun club?
you just had to make this at my ‘in-between jobs’ phase,
i will have enough in the next month or two? can i pledge my name down and then pay later, obviously dont send anything till i pay and what not….
Fear of meeting Robert Blake in the afterlife keeps me honest, scrambledhelix.
AJ, join any time. Your year of membership will start from whenever you join. Thanks!
